The colder-than-normal conditions we have seen since last weekend are serving as an extended opening round to the main event, which could be considered underway now.
A wind chill advisory continues until noon areawide with wind chills at or under -10 at times since midnight. With brutally cold air on top of us through at least Monday, TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says you should do your best to stay inside if you can — and be prepared if you can’t.
Another wind chill advisory is in place from midnight to noon Saturday for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties for the potential of overnight lows around zero and wind chills between -10 and -20. Chase and Greenwood counties, meanwhile, are now in a winter storm watch from 6 am Sunday to 6 pm Monday for the prospect of at least five inches of snow. Wind chill alerts may well be coming Sunday night with overnight lows expected to be under -5 and northerly gusts as high as 20 mph, which could push wind chills to the -30 range.
Several schools are already delaying school today, and there is now at least one adjustment announced for early next week. Click here for the KVOE.com Closings and Cancellations page.
