Several downtown Emporia businesses are slogging through water issues after a waterline break Thursday night.
A waterline broke in the 10 block of West Ninth. Issues were first reported around 9 pm. The water flow was stopped by around 1 am, but Public Works crews are still at the scene.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says this comes at an unfortunate time for many of the affected businesses.
This affects scattered businesses on the west side of Commercial from Ninth all the way down to Sixth. The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce had over six inches of standing water, while the History Center says it has four inches of standing water in its basement, where the archives are stored. Other businesses with damage include Casa Ramos, Designs by Sharon, Flint Hills Music, Jack’s Lawn and Pool and Twin Rivers Winery and Gourmet Shoppe.
