Upgrades are coming for the Lyon County Jail following approval by Lyon County Commissioners Thursday.
During their regular meeting, Commissioners approved two quotes from Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope the first totaling $5,738 for new basement kitchen doors at the jail. The second quote was for a camera system upgrade at the jail totaling $5,342.50.
The work will be handled by Kansas Security LLC. Both projects are being funded through the use of county sales tax dollars and will see no taxpayer dollars utilized.
Additionally, the commission approved two consultant-client agreements with BG Consultants as presented by Facilities Director Mark McKenna. The agreements were for a generator replacement with a consultant fee totaling $32,000 and a water storage replacement with a consultant fee totaling $19,000.
In other business, commissioners received their latest update from Lyon County Public Health regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. As vaccine efforts continue in phase two at this time, Incident Commander Renee Hively reported that cases are continuing to trend downwards.
The county is still working to get eligible residents registered for vaccinations. Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga made a point to remind residents not to take any kind of cold medicine or pain reliever prior to receiving their second vaccine dose.
The Lyon County Commission is scheduled to reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
