Numbing cold is coming to the KVOE listening area, and the process begins in earnest early Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from midnight to noon Friday. Separate advisories for Chase and Greenwood counties also go from midnight to noon Friday.
Air temperatures will be close to zero overnight and northerly winds as high as 15 mph may push wind chills down to -15 or -20.
The advisory may be extended or renewed at times through the weekend. Overnight lows may be around zero Friday and Saturday and could push close to -10 for Sunday night. Overnight winds could be 20 mph or higher, possibly pushing Sunday night’s wind chills under -30.
