A second-half rally came up short for Kansas State in an 80-77 loss to 13th ranked Texas Tuesday night.
Kansas State cut a 17 point deficit to 1 with 42 seconds to play but could not take the lead.
Coach Bruce Weber was encouraged.
Nijel Pack led the Wildcats with 22 points. Mike McGuirl added 18 points.
The Wildcats play at Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Next weeks game with Kansas has been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.
