Overnight snow flurries didn’t amount to much in the way of accumulation. They also didn’t help the area’s travel situation.
Emporia’s major arterials are partly to mostly covered Wednesday morning. Residential streets are mostly to completely covered.
Travel conditions had improved Tuesday after separate light snowfall events Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Emporia Public Works Director Dean Grant says air temperatures in the teens and a lack of sunshine have adjusted the city’s approach in treating local streets.
Temperatures need to be above 20 degrees with a combination of sunshine and normal to heavy traffic for city and county treatment materials to be effective. Thursday may be the only day over the next week where we see 20 degrees, and cloud cover may be locked in place until Tuesday. We also have several chances for flurries or light snowfall over the next week.
