One person has been extricated and taken to Newman Regional Health after a crash involving a semi and pickup in west Emporia on Tuesday.
The crash on West US Highway 50 just west of the Graham Street intersection was reported around 2:15 pm. Early indications from Emporia Police are the pickup was initially westbound on the highway and went left of center. An eastbound semi then hit the pickup, rolling over part of the engine compartment before coming to a stop.
One person inside the pickup, a currently unidentified 18-year-old male, was taken to Newman Regional Health afterward with injuries to his legs. The semi driver was unharmed.
Eastbound traffic was blocked at Graphic Arts for close to three hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Westbound traffic was down to one lane around the crash site.
