If you have to travel in the current wintry conditions, local automotive experts are reminding you to take a few factors into account before you do.
With the sudden drop in temperatures from the upper 30’s and 40’s last week to single digits this week, drivers are encouraged to check their tire pressure before they hit the roadway. Floyd’s Autobody owner John Wheeler says low tire pressure can lead to tire wear and in some instances blowouts on the roadway.
Another issue residents should be mindful of is their coolant. According to Express Tire and Auto owner John Ingold drivers need to check their coolant strength.
He says if coolant is not able to withstand the bitter temperatures it can freeze and cause damage to the vehicle while also not allowing heat to circulate correctly through the vehicle.
Additionally, Ingold says residents need to be mindful of their batteries. He says extreme temperatures, hot or cold, can have negative effects on a battery’s voltage.
If you have questions regarding your vehicle’s performance contact the repair shop or car dealer of your choice. With temperatures forecasted to remain in the teens and single digits throughout the week, KVOE will be providing daily tips to help you combat the cold.
