The Kansas Department of Transportation has approved two major road renovation projects affecting area highways.
KDOT has approved a nearly $3.25 million milling and overlay project for US Highway 56. This will go across Lyon County from the Morris County line east to the Osage County line. It will also affect the Kansas Highway 78 spur from Miller’s north city limits to US-56. Over 23 miles of highway will get repaved with this project. Shilling Construction of Manhattan won the contract.
Separately, KDOT has approved milling and overlay work on Kansas Highway 31 from the south US-75 junction about three miles west of Melvern to the Interstate 35 junction, or a distance of around seven miles. Killough Construction of Ottawa won the contract with a nearly $800,000 bid.
Construction timetables are pending with both projects.
