The Emporia Police Department is announcing a promotion.
Office Lane Doty is now assuming the rank of patrol sergeant. Doty began his career with Emporia Police in 2009 as a patrol officer. He was then assigned to the investigations division three years ago.
As part of his duties with Emporia Police, Doty is a firearms instructor, bike officer and member of the Special Response Team.
Police Chief Ed Owens says the promotion process began in December. Doty replaces DJ Dragonas, who retired in June after 24 years with Emporia Police and 31 years in law enforcement overall.
