As USD 253 Emporia shifts into Phase 3 of its coronavirus learning plan, there will be changes to its meal plans for students.
The popular 7-day meal pack plan will no longer be available when Step 3 starts Monday. The district says it will not use that approach whenever the district is in Step 3 or above.
There will be free hot meals for all students every day they are at school. Free lunches will also be available for all students taking part in remote learning, but parents need to submit orders online. Orders must be placed before 9 am and must be picked up between 11 am and 1 pm at the school selected on the order form.

The district is ending Step 2 on Friday. Step 2 currently has 25 percent of students at Emporia Middle School and Emporia High School going to class every four days, along with a cohort of students needing specialized support that attends classes at the schools every day. Step 3 involves 50 percent of students at EMS and EHS attending at least twice a week plus the on-site cohort. Step 4 will involve 75 percent of students onsite at least three times a week, while Step 5 involves full participation for anybody who has not selected the 100-percent remote learning method.
