Phone lines are back up and running for Flint Hills Community Health Center and Lyon County Public Health, but the number of people calling Public Health’s COVID-19 Hotline to schedule vaccinations is in danger of overloading the system.
Health Center CEO Renee Hively says the outage apparently developed before sunrise and was resolved around 9:20 am.
Hively says the Health Center planned for a crush of calls as it formally sets a vaccination wait list — something requested by county residents who don’t have Internet access.
The outage’s timing was unfortunate because 8 am Tuesday was the target time for residents to start calling. Now that service has been re-established, residents will call the Lyon County Public Health COVID Hotline at 620-208-3741 to get on the list. They will also need to provide full name, date of birth and phone number. People will go on the wait list on a first-come, first-served basis, but the Health Center will schedule appointments based on age with older residents going first.
An open pod for senior citizens as part of Lyon County’s Phase 2 vaccination process is coming from 9 am to 6 pm Friday at the Bowyer Community Building. Hively stresses that people who aren’t scheduled for Friday’s pod will be on the list for future pods. She also reminds residents the online scheduling link used for the first two open pods last month is currently on hold but may well be used for future clinics.
8:10 am Tuesday: Health Center, Public Health phone system down — including COVID-19 Hotline
Talk about a case of bad timing.
On the day Lyon County Public Health is planning to start an official wait list for coronavirus vaccinations, the phone system for both Public Health and the Flint Hills Community Health Center is totally offline. Health Center CEO Renee Hively says work is underway now to get things resolved.
The outage apparently developed before sunrise and affects all phone lines for the Health Center and Public Health.
Once the phone service is re-established, residents will call the Lyon County Public Health COVID Hotline at 620-208-3741 to get on the vaccination wait list. They will also need to provide full name, date of birth and phone number. People will go on the wait list on a first-come, first-served basis, but the Health Center will schedule appointments based on age with older residents going first.
Flint Hills Community Health Center is formally starting a wait list for coronavirus vaccinations after Health Center staffers started taking names last month unbeknownst to administrators. An open pod for senior citizens as part of Lyon County’s Phase 2 vaccination process is coming from 9 am to 6 pm Friday at the Bowyer Community Building.
