USD 253 Emporia Schools is now a year into the Building for the Future Bond Initiative and its been smooth sailing so far.
That’s according to McCownGordon Construction Senior Project Specialist Eric Woltjie who joined KVOE’s Morning Show Thursday to discuss the ongoing work. Phase one of the project is now into the construction phase with work beginning at Walnut Elementary in early October followed by groundbreaking for the new Jones Early Childhood Development Center in mid-November.
With construction now ongoing in the district for roughly four months, Woltjie tells KVOE they are moving at a steady pace and thankfully have yet to have any major disruptions to the project schedule.
At this time Woltjie says work crews are focusing mainly on exterior work with school in session so as to not disrupt the learning environment for students. To that end, Woltjie says construction crews are in constant communication each day with building administrators to ensure everyone is on the same page with what will be occurring on a daily basis.
With work ongoing in phase one of the project, Woltjie announced which buildings will be seeing work in phase two. Next up on the schedule will be Logan Avenue, William Allen White and Emporia Middle School.
Those projects are slated to begin once work on phase one draws to an end. For additional information on the Building for the Future Bond Initiative visit USD253.org.
