No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident in east Emporia Tuesday afternoon.
Emporia Police, Fire Fighters and Evergy crews responded to the intersection of East South Ave. and Sylvan Street shortly after noon Tuesday. According to Emporia Police Officers at the scene, a Chevy Equinox was traveling westbound on South Ave. when the driver took his eyes off the road to adjust a sandwich he was consuming.
The vehicle then left the roadway and collided with and downed a power pole in the intersection. No outages were reported, however, traffic was blocked in all directions as Evergy worked to repair the damaged pole.
Word on citations are currently pending. The driver’s name is not being released.
