After maintaining in-person classes through the entire first semester, USD 251 North Lyon County is looking to keep the trend going at the start of the spring semester.
During a recent interview with KVOE Friday, USD 251 North Lyon County Superintendent Bob Blair says the district began the second semester says the district has a “few more” people in quarantine at the start of this semester than last fall. He says it is a frustrating trend both for the district and understandably for their students.
Like many other districts locally, and nationwide, Blair says the biggest challenge and concern continues to be staff strain due to COVID0-19 illnesses. He says it has been difficult at times finding staff to cover classes or to monitor classrooms while teachers are out due to quarantine or sick leave.
That being said, Blair went on to praise their staff for consistently stepping up to cover any areas they may have been affected by staff shortages in recent months. He says their staff has demonstrated tremendous commitment and dedication both to the district and their students over the past 10 months.
He adds that teachers have demonstrated a significant amount of creativity over the past year when it comes to how they educate their students both in-person and remotely. He says for the most part everyone has maintained a positive outlook throughout the school year thus far.
At this time the district has a few athletic teams in quarantine due to COVID-19 protocol which has caused the district to lose out on a few games in the short term. However, Blair says he is hopeful this will be just a “blip on the screen” and their teams will be back in action very soon.
KVOE will continue to check in with area school districts on a regular basis as the remainder of the 2020-21 school year continues to unfold.
