Coronavirus has been with us now for better than nine months, but longstanding questions about test results continue to pop up.
There are still concerns about tests. In some cases, according to Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern, the question is whether somebody should get tested.
Flu cases haven’t taken off yet, but there has been a definite increase in strep throat
Another major concern for testing is the result backlog, which has been episodic for much of the pandemic and is still an issue after a number of KVOE listeners have said they have waited over a week for testing through the free site at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Millbern says it’s important for people to get results within five days of their test. GoGetTested.com and WellHealth Management, the organizers of the site, have not confirmed an extended turnaround time despite several requests from KVOE News.
Lyon County begins the week with 3,542 total cases since last March, putting it 14th on the Kansas Department of Health and Environment list of cases per county. There are 175 active cases, 65 deaths and 10 active hospitalizations. As of Friday, 760 vaccine doses had been distributed to the Health Center and Newman Regional Health. The number of vaccinations coming to Walgreens and CVS for long-term care facilities as part of a separate federal partnership has not been announced. The next caseload update comes Monday.
