Probation is coming for an Emporia man who unsuccessfully tried to rob an Emporia motel a year ago.
Jeremy Spicer had reached a plea agreement on a single count of attempted robbery in November. On Monday, Spicer was sentenced to 24 months probation through Community Corrections. There is an underlying 21-month prison term if Spicer violates terms of his probation.
Spicer was charged almost exactly a year ago after he allegedly tried to get into the cash register at Econo Lodge Hotel, 2511 West 18th, on Jan. 7. He also acted in an allegedly suspicious manner with the hotel clerk afterward before allegedly telling the clerk to put money on the counter.
Charges of attempted aggravated robbery and making false information were dropped as part of the plea.
