Emporia Main Street is raising awareness of a new grant opportunity to again benefit the local community.
The 2021 Kansas Rural Preservation Grant is focused on historic preservation and is administered through the State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO). Main Street Director Casey Woods says the Rural Preservation Grant has a $500,000 account that will fund the program splitting the money up into $5,000 to $50,000 grants across the country.
According to Woods, the main purpose of the grant is for the restoration of buildings with structural issues not aesthetics. The funding is available in all 50 states for communities with populations of 30,000 residents or less.
