With the Christmas holiday now over, special trash, recycling and live tree disposal efforts are underway in Emporia.
Extra trash and recycling leftover from the holiday can be placed next to Plycarts now through Thursday for pickup. Residents are encouraged to place loose items in normal trach cans or receptacles to avoid any items from blowing away.
Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says crews began at 6 am and will work until they are done, however, he says residents can also assist with the work. He asks that individuals break down any large boxes prior to setting them out for pickup and reminds listeners that not all plastics or wrapping materials are recyclable.
For tree disposal, drop off points are located at the Lyon County Fairgrounds north entrance, Dillons west entrance and Guion’s Showcase between Monday and Jan. 4. Residents are asked to remove trees from any bags they may be in prior to drop off.
Drop-offs will coincide with the GoGetTested COVID-19 testing line at the fairgrounds, however, Senn does not anticipate much crossover between the two traffic streams.
Trees can also be dropped off at the Lyon County Transfer Station at 3100 W. South Ave. The Transfer Station is open seven days a week 8 am to 5 pm Monday-Saturday and 1 pm to 5 pm Sundays with no charge for disposal.
The Transfer Station and Recycling Center will be closed on New Years Day and will reopen at 8 am Saturday morning.
