(kcchiefs) Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is closing in on the second 5,000-yard season of his career, in only his third season as a starting quarterback.
Through 14 games, Mahomes has a league-leading 4,462 passing yards this season. If he continues at his current pace for the final two weeks of the season, he’ll end up with 5,099 yards, almost exactly the same as his 2018 MVP season, when he had 5,097 passing yards.
The only quarterback in NFL history to have more than one 5,000-yard season is Drew Brees, who has done it five times. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Jameis Winston, Dan Marino, and Matthew Stafford each hit 5,000 yards once.
Patrick says his focus is on winning games.
The Kansas City Chiefs had 3 players miss practice yesterday.
Tyreek Hill with a hamstring injury, Clyde Edwards Helaire with an ankle injury, and linebacker Damien Wilson with a knee injury.
Offensive lineman Mike Remmers did have a full practice.
LB Anthony Hitchens was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list as a high-risk close contact on Tuesday. He’ll be on the list for five days from the point of that close contact, which means he’s at limited risk of missing Week 16, so long as he continues to test negative.
The Chiefs host the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
A win wraps up the AFCs’ number 1 seed and a first-round bye in the play-offs.
Coach Andy Reid yesterday was asked about resting players and he said does not think about that.
Kick-off Sunday is set for noon in Kansas City.
