Encouraging news in the number of new coronavirus cases and active cases for Lyon County.
Public Health reported just 17 new cases between Friday and Monday, the lowest weekend total since 26 cases were reported between Oct. 23-25. Also, with 35 recovered patients over the weekend, the active caseload dropped to 123 — the lowest that category has been since it was at 133 on Oct. 29.
Deaths remain steady at 55. Five deaths are awaiting final cause from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Elsewhere in the KVOE listening area:
*Chase County reported a slight increase of nine new cases between Tuesday and Monday bringing the overall total to 123 cases since March. The active case number rose from 11 to 13.
There are currently 19 cases connected to an outbreak at Chase County Care and Rehab with one death reported. 84 cases are currently connected to the Chase County Detention Center with no active cases and no deaths.
*Morris County reported 34 new cases Monday bringing the overall total to 373 with 49 active cases, two deaths and three active hospitalizations.
Meanwhile, an outbreak continues at Diversicare of Council Grove with 39 staff and 52 residents infected.
*Osage County reported 20 new cases since Thursday bringing the overall total to 650. The active case number dipped from 37 to 34 and the death toll remained at six.
