After a day of long lines, adjustments and complaints, Saturday went much more smoothly for those attending the drive-thru coronavirus test facility at the Lyon County Fairgrounds — and for those coordinating the event.
Kansas Market Manager Lyndsey Normand with GoGetTested.com says two major adjustments — more staff and more test kits — certainly eased the traffic flow after wait times of 90 minutes or more were reported to KVOE News on Friday. She says the crew on site is dedicated to making the experience as smooth and as safe as possible. She also says having the free tests available is an important component in the overall fight against COVID-19.
Another adjustment made Friday, going from one line to three, also helped to make Saturday’s flow smoother and more consistent.
Normand clarified the tests being used are of the saliva spit variety, not the oral swab as mentioned before the free testing period started. She says it is just as accurate as the swab and more comfortable for people getting tested.
Turnout has been heavy, with around 300 tests administered Friday and over 240 Saturday. Normand encouraged residents still planning to use the free test site to register ahead of time through www.GoGetTested.com/Kansas, and while she says drive-ups will not be turned away, she cautions the flow will be faster for those who register online before getting tested.
Testing takes Sunday off and resumes Monday. Hours are 9 am-5:30 pm through Wednesday and again between Dec. 28-30.
