Now that Newman Regional Health’s frontline healthcare workers have been vaccinated with the Pfizer medication and Moderna’s version has been approved, the hospital is also looking at the effectiveness of a recent treatment option for residents.
Last month, the hospital announced it would have monoclonal antibody treatments available as a treatment for certain coronavirus patients. Director of Business Development McKenzie Cinelli says the treatment has done well.
Over 60 patients have received the treatment since it was announced a month ago, with anywhere from 10 to 30 people coming in weekly.
The treatment from Eli Lilly is designed for patients at high risk for “disease progression.” It is currently approved for use in patients within 10 days of symptoms, patients at high risk for moving to severe symptoms, patients 12 years and up weighing at least 88 pounds, patients 65 years or older and patients with certain chronic medical conditions.
