Jobless rates are going up for the state and much of the KVOE listening area.
The unemployment rate went from 5 percent in October to 5.6 percent in November. Labor Department economist Emilie Doerksen says non-farm job growth is slowing down.
Increases were seen at the local and area levels. Emporia’s and Lyon County’s jobless rates went from 3.9 to 4.6 percent. Coffey, Greenwood, Osage and Wabaunsee counties all had increases between half a percentage point and a full percentage point. Chase and Morris counties had decreases.
Morris County has the low jobless rate areawide at 3.2 percent. Osage County has the highest at 4.7 percent.
