Holiday inflatables, Polycarts and power lines all had issues in the high wind conditions we dealt with Friday.
The Emporia Municipal Airport recorded a wind gust of 52 mph, second only to the 54-mph gust reported in Lawrence for the National Weather Service Topeka office. The Coffey County Airport’s peak wind gust was 40 mph.
For the Weather Service Wichita office, Eureka had a 43 mph and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve had a 41 mph gust among its highest winds of the day.
Evergy reported several small power outages that developed Friday, with isolated outages in Emporia, Lebo and Olpe. There were at least five simultaneously between Hamilton and Virgil. Most outages were restored fairly quickly and all were restored by evening.
