Flint Hills Technical College has taken the first steps in its search for new leader.
During the FHTC Board of Directors monthly meeting Monday afternoon, the board approved its Presidential Search Committee to find the replacement for out-going President Dean Hollenbeck who will be retiring in June after 15 years of leading the college. As it was presented Monday the list included the names of over 20 candidates.
Per the board’s approval Chairman Ken Roemer and member Sandra Weeks will now work to finalize the members of the committee in the coming weeks. Roemer says the goal is to have up to 12 individuals serve on the committee, which the board directors agreed would be a manageable number of members.
Roemer explained the board wanted to ensure it didn’t have an overabundance of committee members so as to avoid any complications with scheduling and to ensure every committee member had a voice in the search process.
The finalization of the committee should be completed by the end of this week.
In other business, the board received the 2019 Campus Security Report, which includes information on violent crimes, hate crimes, domestic or dating violence, liquor law violations, drug law violations and other significant crime categories across all college campuses. Once again the report showed no crimes occurred in any of those categories on any college campuses for the fourth straight year in a row.
Separately, the board approved the Kansas Homeland Security Region 1 Hazard Mitigation Plan and the regular slate of reports including the monthly financial and college reports.
The FHTC Board of Directors will next convene for its monthly board meeting in January.
