Lyon County now has a coronavirus testing site through the state’s new public service campaign.
Between Friday and Dec. 30, residents can go to the Lyon County Fairgrounds between 9 am-5:30 pm weekdays and Saturdays. The drive-thru clinic will feature testing kits on a first-come, first-served basis and offer results within 48-96 hours. Unlike other testing efforts, which have focused on symptomatic patients or close contacts, residents do not need to have “medical necessity” to get tested. The oral swab tests are also available at no cost to those wanting tests and no ID is needed to line up.
Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell says people need to realize that even though this is a new test site and people don’t need to be symptomatic or be close contacts, they still need to follow the longstanding best practices detailed by Lyon County Public Health.
Drivers will need to enter on the south side of the Fairgrounds using the US Highway 50 entrance and leave by using the 12th Avenue entrance.
Residents wanting a COVID-19 test will not be able to have food, drink or tobacco 30 minutes before their tests.
The effort is a partnership between Lyon County Public Health, Lyon County Emergency Management and www.GoGetTested.com/Kansas, which rolled out several days ago as a way to get more residents tested for coronavirus across the state. The website, which includes free testing sites specific to this effort, is taking place in conjunction with a special media campaign for radio, TV, print and social media.
Residents can go online to www.GoGetTested.com/Kansas starting Wednesday to schedule appointments, which are preferred but walk-ins or drive-ups will be welcomed.
