Another road construction project has been approved in Chase County.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says milling and overlay has been approved on US Highway 50 from the Marion County line east almost continuously to the junction with Kansas Highway 177. Nearly 20 miles of highway will be impacted. The construction timeline has not been announced. APAC-Shears won the contract with a nearly $2.8 million bid.
This comes as work continues on a nearly $3 million project to replace the K-177 bridge over US-50 just west of Strong City. K-177 is currently closed from Fourth Street in Strong City to just north of the bridge. The initial plan had the bridge reopening by late January.
K-177 also has a bridge replacement project underway on Fox Creek about three miles north of Strong City and another bridge construction project about five miles north of Strong City. Both of those could be done by late February.
