The spirit of giving was felt by all on Delane Drive Saturday evening as generous citizens turned out in droves to support a near four-decade-old holiday tradition.
The 37th annual Delane Drive Toy Drop had some minor adjustments this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t stop the cars from lining up in the neighborhood throughout the evening dropping off an abundance of donations. This year’s Toy Drop was organized by Delane Drive resident Marlo Walburn who says it was an honor to be a the helm of such a historic event.
In just the first hour, the event generated 25 large bags of toys for the Salvation Army and SOS. Former long-time organizer Clark Allemang was on hand to help with the event once again and says he is so proud to see the tradition continue to grow.
As always, the entire neighborhood was adorned in a sea of bright lights and luminarias to welcome visitors to the street and as in years past Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual trip from the North Pole to greet visitors to the neighborhood and thank them for their generosity.
In total the toy drop collected 51 bags of toys, 13 bikes and over $600 in monetary donations. All you donations will benefit the Salvation Army of Emporia with monetary donations going to benefit SOS.
