The State Finance Council has approved an extension of the state’s disaster declaration.
The board extended the declaration 25 days instead of the normal 30 so it can be reviewed before the Kansas Legislature 2021 session begins next month.
The declaration has been extended several times since the coronavirus pandemic started. Governor Laura Kelly has said the extension is needed to keep federal funds coming to Kansas and to continue smooth emergency management operations at the state level. The declaration is also considered vital for suspending speedy trial requirements.
