Evergy is holding off on service disconnects almost until spring 2021.
Evergy’s moratorium now goes until March 1 and will be re-evaluated at that time. Evergy is not officially saying the decision is related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but it says it recognizes customers may be struggling with their energy payments and took similar action in March at the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Kansas Gas “discontinued” work last month that could disrupt or disconnect customers unless related to emergencies or compliance requirements. Manager of Public Relations Dawn Tripp says the utility’s COVID-19 Task Force is constantly reviewing that situation.
4 Rivers Electric Cooperative, meanwhile, has closed all its offices to the public as a precautionary measure as coronavirus cases increase across the area. The offices will remain closed until further notice.
