This Saturday will see the 37th installment of a holiday tradition in Emporia.
The annual Delane Drive Toy Drop will be taking place throughout the evening all to support the Salvation Army and SOS this holiday season. The drive collects a wide range of donations including toys, bicycles and money to assist in the Salvation Army’s efforts each year.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, organizer Marlo Walburn says there will be some alterations to the event to accommodate social distancing standards.
One prominent piece of the annual event is the bright lights and luminaries placed out in the neighborhood to welcome visitors during the drop. Walburn says that will not be changing this year as some residents already have their lights and luminarias ready to go.
The toy drop will run from 6 pm to 9 pm Saturday evening. For those who cannot attend in person, donations can be made online by visiting Emporiatoydrive.com.
Last year’s toy drop generated 25 large bags of toys, nine bicycle donations and $450 in monetary donations.
