Thankfully, Lyon County’s coronavirus increases after Thanksgiving haven’t approached the post-Halloween spike. That’s a comfort to Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern.
New cases have increased by 30 to 50 per day this month after increases of 70-plus cases daily were common in November. New cases per day are stabilizing for now, but the test positivity rate is above 20 percent when Public Health would like to see that number under 5 percent. The number had been as high as 30 percent, so Millbern says there is good news in that announcement as well.
As the state ramps up its new public service campaign for increasing testing, GoGetTested.com/Kansas, Lyon County may be in line to get two additional testing sites. Details about one were released on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment.
Millbern says the new campaign also gives county health departments more options on testing methods. This comes as Lyon County has already administered over 22,500 tests to over 9,700 residents.
