The Emporia Salvation Army has its winter clothing giveaway Tuesday.
The agency will hand out coats, gloves, hats, scarves and other winter clothes it has on hand. Appointments are needed, so residents need to call 342-3093 if interested.
Pickup will be at the Salvation Army Annex, 209 West Fourth, between 9 am and 4:30 pm. The Salvation Army is allowing one person with a photo ID per family for pickup, and people must wear a mask and come only at their appointment time to receive items.
This comes between two major fundraisers for the Salvation Army. Real Estate Wednesday generated almost $6,200 for food, clothing, rent and utility assistance. Coldwell Banker Emporia Real Estate raised almost $5,700 at Bluestem Farm and Ranch, while Farm & Home and Ek Real Estate combined to raise over $500 at Walmart. Badges United, which combines fundraising efforts of Emporia Fire, Emporia Police and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, is this upcoming Saturday at Bluestem and Walmart.
The last update has almost $14,000 raised during the Red Kettle campaign period. Goal is $50,000. Major Deb Thompson has a campaign update on KVOE’s 7:15 am Newsmaker segment Wednesday.
