Traffic around Walnut Elementary is being affected by street work this week.
Grove from Walnut to Washington is closed until at least Thursday. Early indications are the work is for underground utility updates and enhancements as part of the Building for the Future renovations now underway.
This is one of several underground projects for that part of central Emporia underway this week. Preliminary work is starting on water line improvements on Elm between West Sixth and Newman Regional Health as well as on West Ninth between Elm and Lawrence. Those two work zones will likely be in effect through the winter months.
