November’s tax collections are above recently adjusted projections for the state.
Total tax collections were at almost $557 million, 1.1 percent or $6 million above projections and almost $23 million more than a year ago.
Individual and corporate income tax collections were both above estimates, although corporate tax revenues were $5.4 million below last year’s tally. Retail sales tax collections were above last year but were off by nearly $23,000 from recent estimates for the month.
Governor Laura Kelly used the Revenue Department report to urge federal lawmakers to pass a new stimulus package soon. Kelly says future revenue growth at the state level may be blunted if a new package isn’t passed. Meanwhile, Revenue Secretary Mark Burghart says the Kelly administration will take a closer look at the structure of the Kansas tax base with more online purchases this year due to COVID-19.
