Emporia Police officers and Lyon County deputies say they were involved in a high-speed pursuit involving several local teenagers early Saturday morning across parts of west Emporia.
The chase started in the 2000 block of West Sixth and continued at speeds of over 100 mph until the suspect vehicle crashed and rolled near the roundabouts connecting West Highway 50 to Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike, causing a small vehicle fire in the process.
Authorities say the driver, 17-year-old Alonso Morales of Emporia, failed to stop at several traffic lights before the wreck. Four other juveniles, all from Emporia, were allegedly in the vehicle and have been named by law enforcement: 17-year-old Armando Gonzalez, 16-year-olds Yahir Castillo and Anthony Acuna and 15-year-old Nadia Rosales. All declined medical treatment at the scene.
None of the teens were arrested. All were released to their parents. Lyon County Deputy Nathan Rankin says criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues.
