Emporia Fire handled a small grass fire Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 629 Road 280, or about 10 miles north of Emporia, after a controlled burn got out of control. About an acre burned before firefighters got the blaze under control.
Early indications are embers from a brush pile blew into an unwanted area. There were no injuries and no other damage.
Meanwhile, a combination of ongoing dry conditions and gusty winds will elevate the fire danger for Sunday afternoon. The fire danger will be in the high to very high category with westerly winds as high as 35 mph for Lyon and several surrounding counties. Gusts could be as high as 40-45 mph across Chase and Greenwood counties.
Firefighters are asking landowners to avoid new outdoor burns and to make sure prior burns from the past several days have been thoroughly doused to avoid rekindles. They are also asking residents to be careful with materials that could start fires like smoking materials or vehicle chains.
