The Olpe Eagles are state champions after a 14-0 victory over Oakley in the 1A State Championship game at Hays Saturday.
A two-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Damon Redeker to senior Kynden Robert would open the scoring and give the Eagles a quick lead in the first quarter. The Eagles would add to their lead with a 13-yard pass from Redeker to senior Gabe Castillo putting the Eagles up 14-0 heading into halftime.
The Plainsmen would hold the Eagles scoreless in the second half but could never find the endzone themselves as Olpe would shutdown the Oakley offense en route to their second state title in school history.
Redeker led the offense with 211 yards of total offense. He says it feels great to be a state champion.
Olpe Head Coach Chris Schmidt says their defense made the difference in the game.
Oakley was led offensively by quarterback Eric Cain with 84 yards of offense.
Olpe ends the season with a perfect 13-0 record. This was the third time in school history the Eagles ended the season undefeated.
