Dr. Anthony Fauci is asking you to mask up this Thanksgiving if you’re having a family gathering and you don’t know whether your guests have coronavirus or have been exposed. Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern is asking the same thing.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Millbern said COVID-19 spreads well when masks aren’t worn — and that typically happens when people are comfortable with their circle of contacts.
Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, has been making his recommendation the past two weeks.
Other guidance from Public Health for Thanksgiving:
• Stay at least 6 feet apart from anyone who is not in your household.
• Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Bring extra supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer.
If you’re traveling:
• Check travel restrictions before you go.
• Get your flu shot before you travel.
• Always wear a mask in public settings and on public transportation.
Lyon County has added almost 900 coronavirus cases since Oct. 26. The active caseload has shot up by around 650 over that time and now stands at 726.
