USD 251 North Lyon County is staying the course with its current education model as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pick up steam in recent weeks.
That decision was reached by the USD 251 Board of Education during a special session Monday evening and follows recent meetings by neighboring districts USD 253 Emporia and USD 417 Morris County. Both of those districts approved transitions to remote only learning during those sessions due to the rapid surge in cases over the past three weeks.
Blair says the decision to not reverse course was made to maintain the board’s goal of keeping students in school for as long as possible. Additionally, Blair says the board does not want to suddenly spring a decision such as this on district parents with little to no warning.
With that being said, he encourages district families to begin planning for the possibility of a shift to remote learning in the event numbers continue to worsen in the coming weeks.
During the meeting, Blair presented four contingency plans the district has developed for the potential of a move to remote only learning. Each plan includes its own unique timeline for notification and an eventual shift to remote learning if the situation were to require such a move.
Blair says the district is currently holding daily meetings for planning purposes.
Classes and extracurricular activities will resume as normal until action is taken by the board to reverse course. Blair asks district parents to be on the lookout for further information from on the district’s next steps in the coming days.
