By early December, White Auditorium could have new safety equipment installed.
One of at least three combination temperature scanners, face scanners and metal detectors has been installed at the east entrance. White Auditorium Director Kevin Hanlin says the city researched other options but wanted equipment that would handle several safety concerns at the same time.
Residents will go through the doors and stop at the scanner, which will take a facial picture and then prompt the person to get their temperature taken. Residents will have to put their wrist next to a tablet on the right side of the scanner for that process. After that, they will walk through for metal detection.
The image scanner can be used in case of major incidents at the auditorium, and it can also be used to track attendance.
The city bought six scanners from Cantronic at $3,200 each. Around $20,000 in SPARK funding was used for the purchase. A decision is pending on whether White Auditorium will get three or four. Plans are also pending for the other scanners.
