Lyon County continued its recent trend of significant coronavirus caseload activity Friday.
Lyon County Public Health announced an increase of 77 new cases, the latest in a string of daily records since late October. Active cases, meanwhile, shot up by 66 so there are now 470 active cases, besting the previous record set just Thursday at 404.
Lyon County now has 1,784 cases since the first COVID-19 case was announced in late March. This means around 5.3 percent of the county’s estimated population of 33,400 has contracted the virus based on raw data, although Lyon County Health Officer Renee Hively says a handful of residents likely have developed coronavirus for a second time.
Cluster information is as follows:
*Colleges and Universities: 1 active cluster, 124 total cases, 38 active cases, 0 deaths
*Schools: 3 active clusters, 49 total cases, 21 active cases, 0 deaths
*Gatherings: 1 active cluster, 6 total cases, 2 active cases, 0 deaths
*Long-Term Care Facility: 1 active cluster, 4 total cases, 3 active cases, 0 deaths
*Healthcare Facilities: 1 active cluster, 6 total cases, 5 active cases, 0 deaths
For education:
*USD 253 Emporia had 21 staff and 16 students develop the virus for the week ending Friday. Thirty-nine employees and 71 students went into quarantine.
*USD 251 North Lyon County announced two staff and two students contracted coronavirus for the week ending Friday. Another two employees and eight students went into quarantine.
*USD 252 Southern Lyon County had no staff get the virus, but one student did during the week of Nov. 2-6. There were four quarantined staff and 17 quarantined students.
*Emporia State University now has 185 total cases with 73 active cases, three students in on-campus isolation and four in on-campus quarantine.
*Flint Hills Technical College has 10 active cases and four people in quarantine. The college does not list its total.
For area counties:
*Coffey County added 32 new cases and now has 230 total. There are 34 active cases. Coffey County has had nine deaths.
*Greenwood County added four cases to move to 161 total. Active cases are at 27.
