Local health officials have been urging residents to use so-called noncongregate housing almost since the coronavirus pandemic started. It seems local residents are finally taking advantage of that service in notable numbers.
Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says there has been an increase in traffic.
Back in April, officials named Hampton and La Quinta inns as participating hotels, but La Quinta ended its time in that role in September and local health officials cannot confirm whether Hampton is still being utilized. Regardless, residents needing isolation and quarantine are both at one hotel now, although they are on different floors.
Noncongregate housing has been available since April and allows patients or close contacts to get well while not infecting others in their family or risking infections. The indications are the special housing arrangement may be available through at least the end of the year.
