The 47 businesses and nonprofits that applied for funding through a special coronavirus relief grant will all get at least some money.
How much will be announced later when Lyon County commissioners go over recommendations reached by the Lyon County Economic Development Relief Grant committee after a nearly hour-long meeting Tuesday. Committee member Kala Maxfield says the board set up several criteria for distributing the funds.
Maxfield also says Lyon County enjoyed a bigger total at $816,000 than some other counties with larger populations.
The grant committee has been working on the applications and the criteria for about a month. Tuesday’s meeting followed one Friday where the committee reassured the applying nonprofits there would be at least some money available for their needs, even though their total requested amounts went above the available pool of money.
Applicants can offset immediate and anticipated needs, including working capital, inventory, wages, utilities or rent with the grant funds. Lyon County will not audit the funding recipients to determine whether they spent the money as indicated.
