Equipment improvements have wrapped up at the Evergy Prairie Street substation in Emporia.
Evergy Spokesperson Gina Penzig says the work includes several upgrades to equipment that has reached its end of life with “new modern equipment.” Penzig says the updates will bring a number of benefits to Evergy and its customers.
Penzig would add, “at the end of the day, energy should be more reliable in that area.” Penzig would go on to say this is a “significant upgrade” to the substation.
She explained that much of the power grid was built out after World War II meaning there is some equipment in the substation that has been hard at work for well over seven decades.
While speaking with KVOE, Penzig agreed this speaks to the longevity of the equipment in use, however, she says it is simply time to move forward with modern technology.
Equipment upgrades officially wrapped up last Tuesday.
