The format was different but the participation was still at an all-time high for the annual All Veterans Tribute Essay contest Thursday.
According to organizer Susan Rathke, the competition had over 250 entries from students across the local area. Due to COVID-19, several changes had to be made to the annual event including having it go virtual this year.
Additionally, only essays were submitted, unlike previous years where students submitted both essays and posters detailing their appreciation for servicemen and women.
Despite the alterations, Rathke was extremely pleased with the end result, so much so that she believes the virtual component could become a permanent component of the annual event in years to come.
All Veterans Tribute activities will continue Saturday with Freedom Fest at the All Veterans Memorial and Soden’s Grove.
