Ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes were on the hunt for candy Saturday and they found plenty of it on Commerical Street.
Emporia Main Street hosted its annual Downtown Trick-Or-Treating event welcoming families and children all adorned in their Halloween best. With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, there were some questions as to whether or not it would be possible to hold a Halloween centered event such as Saturday’s.
Thankfully local businesses and Emporia Main Street were able to adapt to the “new normal” and make the event a success. Main Street Director Casey Woods says while it may not have been a “typical” trick-or-treating experience, they’re grateful they could still offer something to the Emporia community.
Adjustments to the Emporia tradition included social distancing, the use of candy chutes to deliver candy to trick-or-treaters rather than simply handing it out and the requirement of masks to be worn even under Halloween masks. The adjustments didn’t seem to effect the spirits of local residents as hundreds of families and children descended on Commercial to fill their bags and buckets with plenty of delectable treats.
