Change is coming for local Girl Scouts.
The Amend Girl Scout Center at 1236 East 12th is up for sale, and Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Director of Marketing and Communications Muriel Boyce says there is a simple reason why.
The 7,000-square-foot building named after Doctors Marged and Douglas Amend was dedicated to the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council in December 1991. It’s appraised at almost $415,000 for the building and the property.
The local Girl Scouts will consolidate their operations at Camp Double-E, 794 Road 200.
Camp Double-E currently has three shelters and a cabin along with an archery area, lagoon, picnic pavilion, showers, basketball court, fire rings and rapelling ropes.
Proceeds from the building’s sale will benefit the council as a whole. Locally, Boyce tells KVOE News the goal is to have the eight acres of Camp Double-E used year-round for activities and learning opportunities.
