Local civic leaders discussed the best way to handle about $816,000 in COVID-19 relief funds during a special Zoom meeting Thursday night.
During the Lyon County Economic Development meeting, Emporia Grant Administrator Garrett Nordstrom says the funding requests would tap the available pool of money and then some — to the tune of over $2 million total.
Committee member Ed Bashaw says committee members want to do right by the applicants and the community.
This follows an announcement late last month on a Small Business Economic Development Relief Grant allowing for businesses to offset immediate and anticipated needs, including working capital, inventory, wages, utilities or rent.
A six-person committee is looking over these applications and will forward its recommendations to the Lyon County Commission for ultimate approval. Committee members are planning a thorough review and are discussing potential grant parameters like annual income, length of time in business and prior shutdown status due to coronavirus impact. More discussions are coming over the next week.
